Existem algumas outras maneiras de pegar essas vidas (99 é o máximo), mas eu tentei as outras e acho que essa é a melhor e mais fácil.
Então vamos lá!
Para fazer, você só precisa estar grande e carregar um casco até chegar nessa parte da fase.
Depois de arremessar o casco, é só quebrar o bloco do meio da plataforma e esperar do lado direito que os koopas façam o serviço sujo para você.

Essa outra forma também parece muito útil, mas não consegui fazer, sempre conseguia apenas 3 vidas quando jogava. Parece que precisa de sorte.
